Mindy Medley is Senior Counsel in ALAS’s Member Services Department and serves as General Counsel of the company. Mindy focuses her work on new business acquisition and retention efforts through renewal and new firm underwriting.
Mindy assists ALAS members with their insurance coverage questions regarding ALAS’s LPL, Combined MLI/EPLI, and cyber liability coverages, questions related to the intersection of insurance coverage and members’ outside counsel guidelines, and issues that arise in connection with members’ merger transactions and lateral hiring, including prior acts underwriting.
In the role of General Counsel, Mindy advises both the ALAS Board of Directors and Senior Management on issues including insurance coverage and regulatory, tax, employment, and operational matters that impact the company. Mindy also plays a role in ALAS’s amicus efforts should the company be asked to weigh in on legal issues that impact the legal profession.
Prior to joining ALAS in 2021, Mindy was an insurance coverage litigator for 20 years at Clausen Miller P.C. in Chicago. In that role, Mindy counseled carriers and litigated their coverage disputes arising out of first-party property, cyber, fidelity, surety, D&O, and CGL policies throughout the United States. Mindy also served on Clausen Miller’s Finance Committee, Associate Compensation Committee, Summer Intern Committee, and she led the firm’s Marketing Committee. Mindy’s deep insurance knowledge and experience in firm leadership complements her role at ALAS.
Outside of the office, Mindy enjoys spending time with her family where they live in downtown Chicago, serving on Washington University’s Regional Cabinet, cheering on the Chicago Bulls, and working on her golf game.
