As Senior Counsel—Underwriting, Kathy Mellon works closely with ALAS members and prospective member firms on applying for, incepting, and maintaining their professional liability coverage and combined management liability and employment practices liability coverage.
She supports all aspects of underwriting, including new business, the annual renewal application process, issuing policies and confirmations of insurance, and advising member firms on complex coverage matters under their ALAS policies.
Before joining ALAS, Kathy was a Partner and Deputy General Counsel at Dentons US LLP, where she led employment, litigation, and enterprise risk strategy and advised firm leadership on governance, compliance, and legal risk management. She has extensive experience handling complex civil litigation, including class actions, commercial disputes, insurance coverage, environmental, and mass tort matters through all phases of litigation, including trial.
Outside of work, Kathy enjoys traveling and spending time outdoors with her family.
