Overview
As Vice President—Senior Claims Counsel, Alex Berg manages all aspects of members’ claims, including assessing, reserving, and resolving claims against our member firms.
Alex works cooperatively with member firms and defense counsel to defend and resolve claims arising under our lawyer professional liability, employment liability, and management liability coverages. In his role, Alex gauges risk, evaluates liability, and creates and executes effective litigation strategies. He has negotiated numerous favorable settlements resolving complex lawsuits and claims against ALAS assureds. Alex also advises member firms on ways to minimize claims, resolve conflicts, and manage internal and external law firm risks.
Additionally, Alex currently serves as a member of the American Bar Association Standing Committee on Lawyers’ Professional Liability.
Before joining ALAS, Alex was a partner in the legal malpractice defense group at Novack and Macey LLP, a litigation boutique firm that later merged into Armstrong Teasdale. His practice included defending law firms and attorneys accused of professional negligence, breach of contract, fraud, or breach of fiduciary duty. He also represented law firms and attorneys in partnership disputes. He has appeared in federal and state courts and before arbitrators throughout the country.
Alex was an associate at Kirkland & Ellis LLP in both its Washington, D.C. and Chicago offices prior to his tenure at Novack and Macey.
