ALAS, Inc. offers a variety of opportunities to its insured firms to meet and discuss topics pertinent to the business and practice of law.
- Firm Administration Conferences (FAC)
- This biannual conference focuses on topics important to law firm administration personnel with an emphasis on developing best practices and procedures. Past programs have included panel discussions on document management and retention and mergers and lateral hiring practices. This conference is also free and qualifies for CPE and MCLE credit.
- Renewal Meetings
- Each fall ALAS, Inc.'s senior officers and board members conduct renewal meetings throughout the country. These meetings are designed to keep our firms informed about our loss experience, the current claims environment, the ALAS companies' financial performance, and other issues that have a direct bearing on our rates for the coming year.
- Regional Loss Prevention Conferences
- These are informal sessions in the 43 loss prevention regions intended to provide our firms an opportunity to remain abreast of professional malpractice trends and issues. Past topics have included the law firm trend of appointing an in-house general counsel, transactional lawyers as business advisers, and liability and ethics issues in family representation situations.
Consultation Group Meetings

Patent Consultation Group
- These periodic, practice group–specific meetings provide a forum for firm lawyers to talk directly with their peers at other firms about practical issues that arise in their practice area. Past consultation group meetings have focused on patent and bankruptcy practices, and have included presentations by ALAS, Inc. loss prevention and claims counsel and firm practitioners, as well as roundtable discussion among the participants.
Bankruptcy Consultation Group
- Webcasts
- These are periodic broadcasts to all firms focusing on issues that practicing lawyers face on a regular basis. The kickoff Webcast focused on the loss prevention partner (LPP) function and the resources available to assist the LPP. Subsequent Webcasts have focused on substantive issues and are designed to enable the participants to earn CLE credit.
