Interdisciplinary Services
The interdisciplinary initiative harnesses the collective perspectives and experience of three ALAS, Inc. departments—Claims, Loss Prevention, and Member Services—to go beyond traditional areas of loss prevention and advise insured firms on law firm management and culture issues that have a direct impact on exposure to professional liability claims. To supplement the collective perspectives of the three departments, we use a variety of other resources, including a group of current and former managing partners at our firms as well as a variety of law firm consultants for their expertise.
Our interdisciplinary service offerings have included Webcasts and ongoing regional workshop programs focusing on practice group management. ALAS, Inc. also published a “Broken Windows” article in the Loss Prevention Journal, seeking to demonstrate that law firm management’s enforcement of core loss prevention policies fosters a firm culture of excellence. A Webcast in 2010 addressed lateral hiring and integration issues. Also, in 2010 ALAS, Inc. plans to publish an article that addresses law firm partnership agreements (or similar operating documents) and provides samples of provisions that all firms should consider, along with advice on how insured firms might address commonly recurring issues. In addition, a new initiative will provide an orientation program on July 14, 2010 to new managing partners or chairs of governing committees. This program will bring current and former managing partners of insured firms together with these new members of firm management to discuss their experience, offer insight, provide advice, and answer questions.
