Throughout our over 27 years in business, one of the unfortunate truths we have learned is: good law firms get sued, regardless of the areas of law or the geographic locations in which they practice. Even the best of firms, with the most careful client intake procedures and rigorous loss prevention policies, can be dragged into a messy and costly matter. ALAS has the experience and the expertise to handle the most contentious of disputes in a manner that reduces the burden the law firm faces.
Cooperation
ALAS’s approach to claims management has produced a genuine working relationship with its members. Our Claims Department is staffed exclusively by seasoned lawyers from major law firms. Collectively, these lawyers represent nearly 125 years of legal experience. In contrast to the adversarial relationship between the insured and insurer that often characterizes the commercial market, the lawyers at ALAS and our member firms know and respect each other as colleagues, and their interaction is characterized by cooperation.
A Problem-Solving Approach
ALAS takes a problem-solving approach to claims management. Members are encouraged to report matters early, before a circumstance becomes a claim. This enables ALAS to assist members in evaluating the problem and, where justified, to resolve a matter before substantial costs are incurred unnecessarily. Where a claim should be fought, however, ALAS stands ready to support its member firms, including taking a claim to trial and through the appellate process.
The nature of today's legal practice and the risks lawyers face are more complex than ever. Lawyers are targets for disappointed clients and others whose expectations in a business deal or legal proceeding have not been met. ALAS is committed to working with our firms to address problems when they inevitably arise and to resolve them on a fair and efficient basis.
